Vertical Radiators

Vertical radiators are becoming an increasingly popular addition to homes across the UK, and if you’re looking for a high-quality, premium selection at affordable prices, look no further than Just Radiators. We offer an extensive collection of tall radiators in a wide range of sizes, finishes, designs, colours, and styles designed to complement modern and traditional homes beautifully.

Versatile heating solutions with tall radiators

Vertical radiators are incredibly versatile, suiting a wide variety of rooms, spaces, and layouts. Those with limited wall space will benefit from the tall, narrow design as it frees up valuable room and allows the remaining wall space to be used however you like. Many properties feature large windows, which can restrict where traditional horizontal radiators can be installed. However, tall radiators will fit neatly between windows or on either side of them. Designer vertical radiators can also breathe new life into a space by adding a sense of height, making it feel more open and spacious.

Largest range of vertical radiators in the UK from vertical columns to flat verticals

Our range of vertical radiators has been handpicked by our specialists with careful consideration to cater to a variety of tastes and preferences, ensuring you’ll find the perfect match for your interior design. With finish options from classic white, contemporary grey, and timeless antique brass, to an RAL Colour matching service, we have something to either perfectly match or contrast your interior design.

For period properties, cast-iron vertical radiators offer a timeless design which adds sophistication and vintage charm, evoking a sense of timeless elegance while providing efficient heating performance. For a sleek and minimalist aesthetic, our flat panel vertical radiators are an excellent choice. Their clean lines and subtle design seamlessly blend into contemporary spaces, creating a modern ambience without compromising on heating efficiency.

Why choose an upright radiator over a horizontal radiator?

Choosing a vertical radiator over a horizontal one offers several key advantages. Firstly, upright radiators allow for greater flexibility in furniture placement and room design. For example, horizontal radiators can often be blocked by sofas and other pieces of furniture, whereas tall radiators will be able to rise above these obstacles and continue to distribute heat effectively. Secondly, vertical radiators often provide a more modern and stylish aesthetic compared to traditional horizontal models.

Vertical radiators, low prices, and free UK delivery

When browsing our range of designer vertical radiators you’ll find some of the cheapest prices online. Rest assured, this doesn’t mean compromised quality, we just strive to make luxury heating the most affordable it can be. We work closely with premium brands such as Reina, Zehnder and Lux Heat who each craft their radiators with high quality materials, to the highest standard possible. So you can be sure that each of the wall radiators in this collection are extremely durable and have been built to last. Don’t forget, we also offer a price match guarantee.

You needn’t worry about vertical radiators failing to heat efficiently at the top, as they work in the same way as standard horizontal radiator designs do! They use water pressure to ensure that even the highest point of the radiator will be just as toasty as the bottom.

How to choose the right vertical radiator

Tall radiators don’t cut corners when it comes to BTU output, just like our range of designer radiators.

When choosing a new vertical radiator, it’s essential to know the BTU output required. Use our BTU calculator to accurately work this out, otherwise you may be left with a radiator that’s too powerful, increasing your energy bills, or one that doesn’t meet your room’s heating requirements. Once you’ve chosen your new vertical radiator, don’t forget to select a pair of radiator valves that will either match or suit the finish of your chosen radiator.

Vertical Radiator Popular Questions

What are the benefits of vertical radiators?

Stylish Designs - Tall radiators come in a variety of designs, finishes, and colours, from shining metallic finishes to neutrals or even RAL colours that pop. This allows you to choose a radiator that complements your interior décor. No matter if you’re looking for modern or traditional vertical radiators, we have a huge range of designs for you.

Efficient Heating - Upright radiators can often provide better heat distribution compared to traditional horizontal radiators due to their larger surface area, especially in double panel vertical radiators which provide improved heat output and efficiency.

Improved Heat Distribution - A vertical radiator will distribute heat more efficiently through a space. Hot air rises, and a tall radiator will help the heat circulate around a room, reducing cold spots and maintaining a consistent temperature.

Do they come with everything needed to install?

Radiator valves are required to complete the installation of your radiator. There is a lot of choice for valves, we prefer not to choose for you. Whether modern or traditional, matching or contrasting, we’ll have something to elevate your vertical radiator.

Which vertical radiator should I choose?

With their tall and lean design, vertical radiators have the potential to create an eye-catching and bold focal point in any room, some designs are bold enough to resemble artwork and turn the heads of your family and friends, or to just blend in with the current design of your room. Whatever your goal and taste, we have the perfect option for you. Our range of tall radiators features unique designs from premium brands such as Lux Heat, Reina, and DQ that transform a practical room feature into a decorative piece of art. Check out our guide to see our top picks for tall radiators.

Are tall radiators energy efficient?

A common concern amongst homeowners is if vertical radiators work as well as horizontal radiators. This is largely due to the misconception that tall radiators may cause heat to rise to the ceiling, making them less efficient. However, it has been proven that this is simply not true, and a 5000 BTU vertical radiator will work just as efficiently and effectively as a 5000 BTU horizontal radiator. Some of the most efficient options are vertical aluminium radiators, as aluminium heats up quickly without wasting much energy.

In fact, vertical radiators can be more energy efficient than horizontal variations, as they can operate at lower temperatures whilst still giving out the same heat output, a great choice for alternative fuel sources like air source heat pumps and a great way to save on your energy bills.

For an even greener option that is even more efficient, our vertical electric radiators are always a great option, and if you have rooms without mains gas such as conservatories, these are an excellent choice to provide reliable warmth all year round.

Where is the best place to put a vertical radiator?

Vertical radiators are incredibly versatile, and their unique design makes them a perfect fit for spaces where a traditional horizontal radiator simply won't work. In bathrooms, where space is often at a premium, a tall radiator can be tucked neatly beside the shower or vanity, and even add extra functionality with optional towel bars to your vertical radiator. Even in rooms where space isn't a primary concern, a vertical radiator can add a touch of modern elegance. Some floor plans and layouts may mean that your only option is to place a radiator behind a door. Due to the way radiators work, circulating heat around the room with convection, positioning a radiator behind a door should not stop the radiator from heating a room efficiently.

Can vertical radiators be installed horizontally?

No, we do not recommend this. Vertical radiators are designed to be installed vertically for optimal heating performance and mounting. Using them horizontally can lead to problems with heat convection and proper mounting. If you need a horizontal unit with a sleek look, please view our range of Horizontal Designer Radiators.

Will vertical radiators work upside down?

No, we do not recommend having your vertical radiator installed upside down, our radiators are designed to work the correct way up.

Can upright radiators be fed from the top?

Most vertical radiators are designed to be bottom-fed as they contain internal diverters to ensure even heat distribution. However, some models can be top-fed, depending on their design. Feeding a tall radiator from the top without proper flow mechanisms may result in uneven heating. Always check the manufacturer’s guidelines or consult a professional to confirm the best setup for your radiator. If unsure about your model's flow and return options, feel free to contact us for advice.

How can I hide vertical radiator pipes?

The best way to hide vertical radiator pipes that we’ve found is by using our radiator pipe covers. These allow you to encase your pipes in a finish that either matches or contrasts with your choice of radiator.

How to bleed a vertical radiator?

What you’ll need:

  • Radiator bleed key
  • Cloth or towel (to catch drips)

Bleeding a vertical radiator step by step:

  • 1. Turn off your heating system and allow the radiator to cool completely.
  • 2. Locate the bleed valve, it's usually at the top on vertical radiators, either on the side or end.
  • 3. Place a cloth or towel under the valve to catch any drips.
  • 4. Insert the radiator bleed key into the valve.
  • 5. Slowly turn the key anti-clockwise until you hear a hissing sound, this means air is escaping.
  • 6. Wait until water starts to drip out steadily.
  • 7. Turn the valve clockwise to close it tightly.
  • 8. Check your boiler pressure and top up the system if necessary.

Do vertical radiators come with a warranty?

Yes. All of our vertical radiators come with a manufacturer’s warranty for peace of mind. Warranty periods vary by model, typically ranging from 5 years up to 25 years. Please check the specific product page or contact us for details on the radiator you are interested in.
