So, are you on the hunt for a new radiator and keep seeing the letters BTU everywhere, but have no idea what they mean? Don’t worry, we’re here to help!

Whether you're looking for living room radiators or kitchen radiators

What Is a BTU?

BTU stands for British Thermal Unit. It’s a measurement that shows the amount of energy it takes to heat one pound of water (approx. 1 pint) by one-degree Fahrenheit.

The BTU rating of a radiator will tell you how much heat that radiator will emit. To find out what size radiator you need for a particular room, you first need to know its BTU requirement. This will make sure you choose the right radiator to keep the whole of that room warm.

Calculating The BTU

Finding out the BTU value of each room is intrinsic to making the right choice. If you pick a radiator with too low a BTU output, the room won’t heat up completely and you’ll feel cold in parts of it. You might also find that you need multiple radiators to heat a room with a higher BTU requirement. Therefore, it’s important to find all of this out with a BTU calculation before you start shopping.

You can find out your BTU requirement by using our free BTU calculator here at Just Radiators, which will ask you the measurements of the room along with what kind of windows you have. Using this information, it will calculate the amount of heat your new radiator needs to produce to efficiently heat the room. Simple!
